Train Project
INTRODUCTION
DEFINE A PROBLEM
In this project we designed trains in inventor to better our skills with the program. we modeled each part and constructed it to make a train that, if it was to be 3D printed would work and be able to move (if you push it).
GENERATE CONCEPTS
After tons of practice we started to recognize the dimensions and eventually we got good enough to where we could be handed a piece of paper with an object and its dimensions and we could make that same object in inventor.
DEVELOP A SOLUTION
CONSTRUCT AND TEST A PROTOTYPE
I'm sorry i didn't do it the right way. I did it this way because I forgot how to do it the right way and instead of spending half an hour trying to figure it out I improvised.
EVALUATE THE SOLUTION
I showed my train to my dad and he said that it looked cool but next time I should add some smoke to the stack and add a conductor inside the train. My sister said that I should have added train cars to it.
PRESENT THE SOLUTION
During this project it was quite entertaining trying to get all of the parts built without messing them all up. however I really had a hard time during the assembly for some reason. it may be because i didn't know that you could just constrain the pegs to the axis of the hole and then constrain them to another object. I did however learn a lot during this project. this project tested all of the skills that we have gathered over the past few months. It refreshed my brain in lots of areas in inventor and helped me really get to know how to build parts quicker. The biggest challenge that I faced was time. This was very much my fault though so I will not complain about it much. The purpose of sectional view is to be able to see the hole inside of an object and get a better understanding of what the hole looks like. Sectional view can also be used for parts that were made by revolving a 2D shape to get a circle. The purpose of auxiliary view is to be able to see a surface that may be slanted like it is a face of a shape. You can also see the dimensions easier from this view if you are seeing the auxiliary view of a slanted face. The purpose of broken view is to be able to see a part of something closer up and more clearly. Symbols are used instead of words to identify hole types because it is a lot easier to just write a \/ for a counter sunk that countersink every time you dimension a circle. We have tolerances because when a company is manufacturing an item their machines get slightly off by fractions of inches every time that make one of what they are making. So the engineer who designed the object tells the manufacturer the maximum error before the object cannot function with tolerances.
